Day 1 - Kaixo!
A big Basque hello to our new arrivals at Bilbao International Airport (BIO), where you’ll be greeted and transferred by private van to your accommodations at Moana Surf House. Settle into your room, and depending on what time you arrive, head out to one of the nearby beaches, explore coastal trails or relax in the hotel meditation and reading room. We’ll meet as a group for a welcome dinner at Moana. Meals Included: Dinner (Moana)
Day 2 - Sidra House Rules
Enjoy a European breakfast before hitting the morning trail. Hike up from the surfer’s beach of La Arena to the peak of Punto Lucero, navigating idyllic pastures and Spanish Civil War ruins with views of the Basque Mountains. After a quick shower and change, a 4-course lunch at a traditional Basque sidra (cider) house awaits. Dig your toes into the sand at Playa Salbaje before dinner at Moana. Hiking Distance: 3.5 miles Meals Included: Breakfast (Moana), Lunch (Ayoberri Sagardotegia), Dinner (Moana)
Day 3 - Flysch and Wine
After a cortado, our private shuttle leads to Zumaia’s famous Flysch Route. This guided hike traces prehistoric coastal rock formations, winding through vineyards and forests. Enjoy an alpine-style lunch above the bay before reaching Deba, where a private boat returns the group to Zumaia. Indulge in a grilled seafood dinner paired with txakoli, the region’s white wine, at a locally owned vineyard. Hiking Distance: 9.5 miles Meals Included: Breakfast (Moana), Lunch (Locally sourced picnic style), Dinner (Restaurante Katxiña)
Day 4 - From the Peaks to the Sea
Today's trail leads to Aizkorri, the tallest massif in Basque Country. Pass by herds of sheep on your way to join a local cheesemaker for a farm style lunch. The route ends with a visit to the mythical Arantzazu monastery before our shuttle heads downriver to San Sebastian. Sample small-plate pintxos in bustling backstreets and sit for a private dinner in Europe’s culinary capital—Basque cheesecake included. Day 5 - Basque Coast, Best Coast
A well-earned rest day does not mean sitting still. Optional morning surf classes start our day in La Salbaje. In the afternoon, the Basque coast is our oyster. Hike between Sopelana’s trio of beaches or paraglide out over crashing waves. For those that want to see Bilbao, an industrial hub transformed into one of Spain's most progressive cities, a post-lunch shuttle will head to the Guggenheim Art Museum. We'll end our day with a curated coastal feast as the sun dips into the Atlantic. Meals Included: Breakfast (Moana), Dinner (El Peñon)
Day 6 - Above Bilbao
Towering over Bilbao, Gorbea holds a special place in locals' hearts. We'll unlock some of its magic on our final hike, exploring dramatic Karst rock and cave formations on a meandering mountain loop. After an alpine lunch, we’ll visit the fisherman’s enclave of Portugalete to soak up maritime history and visit local shops. Enjoy a final dinner in the heart of town, sampling local favorites from mountain and sea before toasting new friends at Getxo’s weekly street party. Hiking Distance: 5.5 miles Meals Included: Breakfast (Moana), Lunch (mountainside picnic), Dinner (Getxo).
Day 7 - Adiós, Goodbye, Agur
Pack up and enjoy a relaxing morning, and a final breakfast with the crew at Moana. Private airport transfers will connect you to Bilbao Airport happy, healthy and ready for your next adventure! Meals Included: Breakfast (Moana)

Can I pay a deposit, or is full payment required to book?
You can secure your spot with a $500 deposit if you prefer to wait to make full payment. Full payment will be collected 90 days prior to the trip. If you opt to pay a deposit now, click here or email trips@ori-mag.com

There is a minimum of 6 people required to run this trip. Please wait to make travel arrangements until you received confirmation from Ori.
What are the accommodations like?
Much more than just a place to rest your head, Moana Eco Surf House is a place where you can enjoy natural beauty without sacrificing comfort. Located along the picturesque Basque Coast, in Sopela (Bizkaia), 400 meters (less than ¼ mile) from the beach, 300 meters (10 min. walk) to the subway station and surrounded by some of the most beautiful coastline in Europe. Take advantage of Moana’s spa, yoga classes, gardens, multi-use geodesic dome, large indoor and outdoor terraces and modern, tasteful rooms (23 total) with private bathrooms. Moana’s spacious and modern surf bar has a dining room specializing in healthy, locally sourced food.
Can I book a private room?
All rooms are single rooms with a double sized bed, which can be double or single occupancy based on traveler’s preferences.
What is the food like?
Meals at Moana are healthy and
locally based fare. Vegetarian, vegan and other preferences welcome. All meals on the trip prioritize local, organic ingredients (including meat, dairy and gluten), but all dietary restrictions can be accommodated with proper advanced notice.
Are all activities mandatory?
Absolutely not. All of our
activities are optional and guests are free to pick and choose as they feel. Hiking itineraries are often combined with gastronomical experiences, so guides will work with guests to make sure no one misses out on meals.
What kind of skill/fitness isrequired for the trip?
This trip is built with the active
traveler in mind and guests should expect to walk/hike between 5-7 miles a day (with some longer days). There is no technical terrain or knowledge requirements, and all physical activities will be led by a guide.
When and how do I meet up with the group upon my arrival?
You’ll be met at the arrivals hall
in Bilbao International Airport and transferred to Moana Eco Surf House in Sopelana (approximately 10 minutes away)
What is the maximum number of guests on the trip?
In order to keep the experience
personal and curated, we are capping the trip at 12 guests.
Should I purchase travel insurance?
Yes. While it is not required, we
highly recommend purchasing insurance every time you travel. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseen reasons, or if you need medical help, emergency transport, theft
protection and/or coverage for accidental damage while traveling. We recommend Spot Insurance.
What if I need to change or cancel my trip? What's your Policy?
We understand the need for flexibility, so if you cannot or no longer wish to join your scheduled trip, we are offering the option to forward your deposit to a future Ori trip _(at no cost)_ up to 65 days prior to the departure date. However, if you need to cancel, the deposit for the trip is non-refundable and cancellations will be subject to a cancellation fee (see policy below). For this reason, we recommend purchasing travel insurance, which will cover the cost of your trip in extenuating circumstances.
All cancellations must be submitted to Ori in writing, are effective as of the date we receive them according to our internal records and will be subject to a cancellation fee as follows (amounts are per person and only apply to the amount paid after the non-refundable deposit amount):
- Cancellation 60 days or more prior to trip departure: Non-Refundable Deposit.
- Cancellation between 30 and 59 days prior to trip departur: 50% of total booking cost.
- Cancellation less than 30 days prior to departure: 100% of total booking cost.
No refunds will be made if you voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. The same applies if you leave a trip or cannot fully participate in a trip due to injury or illness. Refunds will be at the discretion of Ori if you are involuntarily forced to leave a trip for any reason. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals, or services not utilized.
